
Barry Dallara graduated from Blairsville High School in 1963. Until 1966 he worked part-time while attending college part-time and a drafting school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In October of 1966 Barry was drafted into the United States Army. After completing Basic and Advanced individual training, he attended The Engineer Officers Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia graduating September 29, 1967 as a Second Lieutenant.
After his OCS graduation, Lt. Dallara served two (2) additional years of active duty at Fort Irwin, California as the Assistant Facilities Engineer for the installation, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal upon his separation from active duty in October of 1969.
In 1970 Barry joined the United States Army Reserves as a member of the 458th EN Battalion. COL. Dallara served as Battalion Commander from 1985-1988. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal upon completion of his Command Assignment. COL. Dallara completed his active reserve service as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel of the 99th Army Reserve Command in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was promoted to the Rank of Colonel in 1991.
Mr. Dallara began his career in public education in 1973 after graduating from California University of Pennsylvania teaching drafting and graphic arts at Chestnut Ridge High School. In 1982 he graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Masters Degree in Vocational and Technical Education. In 1985, after teaching 12 years at The Chestnut Ridge School District he became the Administrative Director of the Bedford-Everett Technology Center. In 1995 Mr. Dallara obtained a Superintendent of Schools Certification from Bucknell University and served as Superintendent of Schools in the Forest Hills School District from 1997 until 2001. He completed his public education career in 2008, after seven years as superintendent of the Waynesboro School District in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. During his career in public education, Mr. Dallara also served as one of four Pennsylvania School Boards Association Insurance Trust Trustees in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania from 2004 to 2008.
After finishing his career in public education, Barry had the opportunity to serve as Adjunct Faculty member at Kaplan University in Hagerstown, Maryland for five years. Mr. Dallara has gratefully served as a Bedford County Commissioner since February 2, 2014.
Mr. Dallara has been a citizen of Bedford County for 44 years. He has been married to his beautiful wife, Sharon, for 45 years. Together they have two (2) children and three (3) grandchildren. They attend the Crossroads Bible Church. Barry is an avid golfer and hunter and enjoys spending time at the beach with his wife.
